AboutAfrica (aboutafrica.co.za) is an independent interactive atlas of the African continent. It is operated from South Africa.

What data we collect

We collect data only if you choose to Accept All cookies. If you choose Reject All, no cookies are set and no data is collected.

How we use data

Analytics data is used solely to understand aggregate usage patterns — for example, which countries or eras attract the most interest, and whether the site loads correctly on different devices. It is never used to identify individual visitors, build profiles, or target advertising.

We do not share any data with third parties beyond Google Analytics, whose own privacy policy applies to data they receive: policies.google.com/privacy.

You can change your cookie preference at any time below. Your choice takes effect immediately.

Data retention

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted from Google's servers. We do not store any analytics data ourselves.

Your rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under GDPR (EU/EEA), POPIA (South Africa), or similar legislation — including the right to access, correct, or delete data held about you. Since we collect no personal data directly, there is nothing held on our end to access or delete. For data held by Google Analytics, you can use Google's tools at myaccount.google.com.

Children

This site does not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has submitted data through the contact form, please email us and we will remove it promptly.

If we make material changes to how we handle data, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to check back periodically.
